Fáilte Ireland grading meets Rezlynx

Fáilte Ireland grading badge on Irish hotel

Every hotel operator on the island of Ireland lives with the Fáilte Ireland grading process. It shapes what your booking engine can claim, what your OTA content must show, what corporate procurement contracts you can win, and — if you are on the higher-end side — what tour operator business flows to you at all. And yet the grading regime has been almost entirely absent from the software layer that Irish hotels sit on. Rezlynx is a good PMS but it was built for a broader market — it does not natively understand Fáilte's vocabulary.

· I ·What Fáilte actually grades

The current scheme covers hotels (5-star, 4-star, 3-star), guesthouses (Guesthouse rating), self-catering (Approved), hostels (Approved), and the cross-cutting Welcome Standard which applies to every category. There are ancillary certifications — the Sustainable Tourism Certificate, the Fáilte-approved trade tariff, the Discover Ireland destination pledge — that carry commercial weight but are not part of the primary grading.

· II ·What the module actually does

Every module in the GuestlinePortal catalog that renders a guest-facing surface — the Booking Engine widget with Fáilte badges, the OTA content push, the Revenue-compliant e-invoice, the certification tracker — pulls your current grading from the Fáilte register on first initialisation and refreshes it monthly. If the grading changes between refresh cycles you can force a re-fetch from the Client Portal, and the badges swap over on every surface within two minutes.

· III ·The day your grading changes

The most stressful moment is inspection week. If an inspector finds shortcomings that drop you from 4-star to 3-star, or upgrades a hotel from 3-star to 4-star, the transition needs to be handled cleanly across every channel — from the property website to Booking.com IE, Expedia IE and the OTA metasearch results the guest sees on google.ie. Doing that manually across a Dublin four-star with three OTA channels and a dedicated corporate procurement desk is a two-day project. Doing it through the certification tracker takes about 12 minutes — click Refresh Grading, review the diff, click Publish.

· IV ·Case: the Killarney lakes property

A Killarney lakes hotel we work with was re-graded from 3-star Guesthouse to Guesthouse-plus-Welcome-Standard in April 2026. The Welcome Standard was new for that inspection cycle. Within the same evening, every surface — including the OTA content push and the Fáilte badge on the invoice footer — had the new mark visible. The Bord Fáilte-approved trade tariff was updated in the same push. Corporate procurement in Dublin, which had specifically requested Welcome Standard properties for their Kerry allocation, could see the badge appear in the trade portal the next morning. Two nights were booked from that portal within the first 48 hours.

· V ·What to check every quarter

Even with automation, we recommend Irish hoteliers review three things every quarter: (a) the actual badge rendering on the live booking engine — pull it up on a phone in incognito mode, confirm it matches your current grade; (b) the grading name spelling on the OTA content — Booking.com occasionally reverts to a legacy label; (c) the Discover Ireland pledge date — this is an annual renewal that does not track automatically to the primary grading cycle. The certification tracker's dashboard flags all three.

· VI ·Practical setup

To turn on Fáilte grading across all your Rezlynx-integrated surfaces you need the Booking Engine widget module (€69/mo) plus, if you want the tracking-and-reporting layer, the Fáilte Ireland certification tracker (€39/mo). Both connect to your Guestline Client Portal via the official Rezlynx API and read the Fáilte register from Fáilte Ireland's own public data source. Setup takes under 10 minutes.
